Tissue of Origin Test
Science of Genetic Testing
Objective data that delivers answers.
Genetic tests look at variations in a single gene that may result in an inheritable disease. Genomic tests look at many genes (sometimes the entire human genome) and assess the activities of the genes themselves as they relate to particular diseases. The Tissue of Origin Test is a genomic test.
The Tissue of Origin Test uses a combination of microarray technology and advanced analytics to measure the gene expression patterns (comprising almost 5,000 genes) of challenging tumors, including metastatic, poorly differentiated, and undifferentiated cancer. These data are compared with the gene expression patterns of a panel of 17 known tissue types—representing 69 morphologies and covering 95% of solid tumors—in order to identify the tumor.
