Why is the Test Important

An aid to physicians seeking to make the best treatment decisions

Studies have shown that when the tumor type is known, patients can receive tumor-specific therapies and may experience better response to treatment. This is why current treatment guidelines established by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) state that whenever possible, cancer patients should receive treatment that is targeted to their specific tumor types.1

Today's targeted cancer therapies (those that are targeted to specific tumor types) can be  more effective and have fewer side effects. Even if they have spread in the body (“metatstatic”) many tumors will respond to targeted therapy. By identifying tumors more accurately, physicians can improve the quality of care their patients receive and can also reduce the burden of uncertainty on patients and families.

“I think finding the correct diagnosis was the difference between life and death. I am very thankful that my oncologist and the people at Pathwork Diagnostic continued their search.”
