A new kind of diagnostic test

Most of the 1.4 million new cancer cases that occur each year in the United States are readily diagnosed. The oncologist can identify the site of a tumor’s origin and determine what kind of cancer the patient has. This is important because cancers are treated according to where they originate, known as the primary site.

Yet in up to one out of ten new cancer cases, there is no definitive diagnosis after the initial diagnostic steps. This can greatly complicate the diagnostic process, delay treatment and cause additional emotional stress for patients and their families already burdened with a cancer diagnosis.

The Tissue of Origin Test from Pathwork Diagnostics is a unique diagnostic tool that helps the oncologist with these challenging cancer cases, using state-of-the-art gene technology to determine the tumor’s origin.

“It took away the doubt,” Molly said about the Tissue of Origin Test. “It’s not fair that people should be going thru treatment and taking all these drugs if you don’t know if it’s doing any good. At least now we know we are treating the right thing.”
