ASSOCIATION FOR MOLECULAR PATHOLOGY 2006 ANNUAL MEETING:
EXPERTS TO PREVIEW MULTI-CENTER CLINICAL VALIDATION RESULTS
FOR PATHWORK DIAGNOSTICS' NOVEL ONCOLOGY DIAGNOSTICS SYSTEM
San Jose, Calif. --- Sept. 28, 2006 --- Helping to usher in a new era in molecular diagnostics for oncology, leading experts will preview results from Pathwork Diagnostics' multi-center clinical validation study for a novel microarray-based cancer system at a workshop at the Association for Molecular Pathology's (AMP) 2006 Annual Meeting to be held November 16-19 in Orlando, Fla. Renowned speakers will discuss preliminary results regarding Pathwork's Tissue of Origin (TOO) test, which may aid in the determination of the origin of metastatic cancers. Also included will be a challenging case study addressing clinical utility.

Background
Metastatic tumors of uncertain origin - where a presumptive diagnosis can be made, but the physician is unsure - are a common problem. Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP), for example, represents the seventh to eighth most frequent type of cancer worldwide and the fourth most common cause of cancer death. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network's guidelines emphasize the importance of identifying the tissue of origin so that cancer-specific treatment recommendations can be followed. Current pathologic techniques, however, identify the primary tumor site only 25 percent of the time in living patients. Pathwork Diagnostics will have completed an extensive clinical validation study of their microarray-based assay addressing this unmet clinical need and will share the most recent results at the AMP meeting.
