Clinical Information
Case 3 - Pathologic Humerus Fracture
Initial presentation:
A 72 year old man with prior smoking history presents with a fractured right humerus. Past medical history notable for prostatic and colonic carcinoma.
Work up:

Initial treatment:
Gemzar® and Carboplatin plus Zometa®
Pathwork® Tissue of Origin Test ordered.
Results - Tissue of Origin Test:
Interpretation from Pathwork Diagnostics’ pathologist: “The Tissue of Origin test indicates a Pancreas origin in this case with moderately high probability. In the Tissue of Origin validation study, the Top Scores for Pancreas tumors were evenly distributed in a range of approximately 20 - 100. The test has effectively ruled out an origin from 10 tissue types with scores ranging from 0.5 to 5.0, as Similarity Scores below 5 indicate a greater than 99% probability of that tissue type not being the correct tissue of origin. Breast, Colorectal, and Kidney with Similarity Scores of 16.5, 14.8, and 8.1 are also unlikely to be the origin.”

Post Tissue of Origin treatment:
- Carboplatin dropped

“Test result of pancreatic cancer is unexpected but consistent with the clinical and IHC information. The assay helped direct the treatment.”
